The Gallery is closed on Mondays. School group walkabouts are conducted between 10h00 and 14h30 from Tuesday to Friday.

School tours must be booked a week in advance and confirmed the day before. Late arrivals will forfeit their bookings  as Gallery staff have full programmes.

Art Classes for Young Adults

Art Classes for Young Adults
Fridays 14h00 to 16h00
Cost: R60 per month (including materials)

The Tatham Art Gallery offers art classes to enrich the lives of the youth of Pietermaritzburg and surroundings. Classes run every Friday afternoon during the school term . This outreach programme provides an opportunity for students who do not take art as a subject at school.

Working with permanent and temporary exhibitions helps these emerging artists to enhance and extend their knowledge of art history and theory of art. Students  are encouraged to use different media in their practical work.

Artists’ Forum

Artists are invited to meet on the second Wednesday  of each month for art evaluation. Together with an art educator they exchange their ideas and approaches to art mediums and techniques, forming new concepts.

Most artists look at these forums as a platform for constructive criticism, where they get feedback in a non- threatening environment.
