Artists' Forum in session
The Artists' Forums encourage both professional and aspiring artists who work in different media and techniques to meet and discuss their artworks. Education officers work closely with the group who share ideas about art-making and give each other feedback.
Since 2008, we have attempted to make Artists' Forums more accessible to everyone. The installation of the access control boom on the Church Street side of the Gallery has eased some of the parking problems for participants. Wednesdays Artists' Forums are proving to be popular and Saturday Forums, which presented difficulties, have been discontinued.
The Artists' Forum has set up a core group of artists who respond to each other's artworks. They give each other positive criticism and advice on technicalities. This term, Artists' Forum will be working closely with artists based at Basani Art and Craft Centre who are working towards an end of year exhibition to be held in the Gallery. All practising artists who would like feedback on their work are welcome to attend.
Artists' Forums are opportunities for amateur and professional artists to meet and discuss each other's work. The forum is an informal ''crit'' where artists give each other advice ranging from a viewer's perception of an artwork to technical knowledge.
Artists are invited to bring their own works to the Gallery for discussion. The forum provides a place to overcome the isolation in which artists often work. Discussions focus on content and the techniques used to express this. Feedback is given by Gallery staff, experts from other fields and other artists.
Forums are facilitated by the Tatham Art Gallery's education staff, sometimes with an invited guest. The topics discussed vary depending on the kind of artwork brought to the forum.
