Art Classes for Young Adults
- and Lecture Theatre
- Fridays 14h30 to 16h30
- R60.00 monthly fee
The Tatham Art Gallery's education staff offer art classes to the youth during the school term. These are an extension of what learners do at school and have also been used as an introduction for learners who are not offered art in their school curriculum.
The class has been divided into two:
- Level 01 scholars are taught at the Old Presbyterian Church. They are exposed to a basic introduction to art theory, and are taught observation and how to work with different art media.
- Level 02 scholars work in the Gallery Lecture Theatre where the emphasis is on individual expression, working from set themes, demonstrating technical abilities and experimenting with different media.
Learners are encouraged to be a part of the Gallery's developmental programmes such as the Artists' Forum, holiday programmes or Gallery facilitated workshops.
As part of extended nurturing, learners participate in holiday programmes run at the Centre for Visual Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In order to reinforce what they are being taught, learners are encouraged to visit the Gallery, study the collection and make their own work which can be discussed in class and at the Artists' Forums.
